Vision on & relation to sustainable just cities

Originally from outside Belfast, I have lived in Stirling, Scotland, my whole adult life, having gone there to study Environmental Geography at university in 2006. I am really passionate about work that tackles both climate change and poverty simultaneously.

Since 2014 I have worked for environmental charities raising awareness about climate change. At RGU Go Green I organised events and activities to get students involved in our projects to help reduce their carbon footprints. At Forth Environment Link I organised a series of workshops to train individuals and community groups in all things orchard-related.

I began working with Transition Stirling in 2016 as Project Manager on our 'Share and Repair' project. This includes Scotland's second tool library, and first repair cafe events. We have a repair service and a wood reuse scheme to help volunteers increase skills in wood-working using waste wood. We deliver workshops on growing food, cooking food, foraging for food, sewing and mending textiles and furniture upcycling, and hold film screenings on different climate change related topics. We are involved in the delivery of establishing a reusable cup deposit scheme and a community fridge. Lastly, we are soon to begin a new project taking items discarded at our local recycling centre and repairing, redesigning and retailing them through a Reuse Hub.

More about me

During my time working with Transition Stirling, I studied an MSc in Strategic Sustainable Business at University of Stirling. I am also involved in my local Extinction Rebellion group and volunteer on the board of Tool Library Cumbernauld.
