How to contribute

We welcome everyone in the UrbanA Community of Practice to share their knowledge and experience via this wiki, directly or indirectly. There are three ways to add information:

  1. Direct editing and adding to specific pages and/or creating a new page
  2. Commenting via talk pages
  3. Optional: it is also possible to reach the users of the wiki directly through the User Talk pages.

In some instances, curators of the wiki pages identified a knowledge gap based on the first round of mapping and formulated a specific question for the rest of the Community of Practice. These questions can be found in the Discussion tab of the relevant pages.

Direct editing: Links to main sources of help

We welcome our Community of Practice to directly edit and add to specific wiki pages and/or create a new wiki page. The following pages might be helpful to get started:

  • Wiki user help: you can find all the help pages of wiki media here.
  • Editing: It is relatively easy to edit pages. Click the "Edit" page tab at the top of the page. Make changes to the text. Click the "Save page" button.
  • Starting a new page: start a new page by creating a link
  • Formatting: You can format your text by using wiki markup. This consists of normal characters like asterisks, apostrophes or equal signs which have a special function in the wiki, sometimes depending on their position.
  • Links: you can link to pages in the same wiki or to external pages at other websites.
  • Images: This page explains the image syntax when editing the wiki. You or another user must usually upload an image before you can use it on a page.

Guide to commenting via talk pages

Every wiki page has an associated talk page, which can be used for discussion and communicating with other users. Talk pages can be accessed by clicking the "Discussion" tab at the top of the page. Simply edit the page as normal to add your comment. As with any wiki page, you can edit it, link to it, and view the editing history.

In order to keep the discussion structured, we suggest everyone to follow some simple editing conventions:

  • Always sign your name after your comments. Use the four tildes ~~~~ wiki syntax (or the signature button Signature button in the toolbar above the editing textbox). For more information see this help page.
  • Start a new discussion with a == Level 2 Heading == at the bottom of the page (or use the "+" tab).
  • Indent replies with stars (*) at the beginning of the line. Multiple stars increase the level of indentation (useful if you are replying to a reply!)

Find out more on how to use the talk page in this help page.
